Posted on my other site, natedamm.com about the last day – includes lots of photos and a video of me walking into the ocean. There is also some info about the book I’m working on, for those of you (and there’s been a lot!) asking about that.
If you are interested in keeping up with me now that the walk is over, just click on the “subscribe” link on the left side of the page at natedamm.com and enter your email. If you aren’t interested, that’s cool too!
So, my walk across America ends tomorrow at Ocean Beach in San Francisco.
I’ll be doing a lot more writing about this in the upcoming weeks, but right now I’m really just at a loss for words.
I’m excited, but also kind of sad. I’ve enjoyed this trip so much and the realization that it is coming to an end has been tough to deal with.
But, I’m happy, mainly because of all of you who have shown me so much support and kindness over the duration of the trip. It has honestly been overwhelming. It wouldn’t have been the same without YOU, so thank you.
What an amazing country this is. I’ll never forget the experiences I’ve had over the last 7.5 months. This walk changed my life in a million ways.
Just wanted to write a quick note before I try to get some sleep and prepare for tomorrow.
One last morning walk ahead joined by friends and family. It will be a great day.
I’ll post videos and photos from the beach as soon as I get a chance.
Once again, thank you
Today I walked into California, it was a strange experience. I just kind of stared at the sign for a while and then walked on past it. No big celebration or anything. I wasn’t quite sure what to think, I guess.
The plan from here to SF:
I’m staying with the WONDERFUL Dillwith family here in Gardnerville, Nevada. They are taking care of me for the next couple of days, and then the plan is that I’ll walk the rest of the way into Lodi, CA (not very far at all), and set up camp there until my mom gets into San Francisco on the 8th. Could be there a week or so, but I’m looking forward to it. Will be some good time to just relax, read, write and think. From October 8-14 I’ll have car support from my mom, and will be staying in Napa when I’m not walking. Very excited for this.
Then I’ll walk the final little bit to Ocean Beach on the morning of the 15th, and the walk will be over.
I know a lot of you have offered help and support in the San Francisco area, but it’s looking like I won’t be needing it now that I will definitely have car support from Lodi on. I really appreciate everyone offering. You continue to be way too awesome.
In Fallon, Nevada. Have some wonderful hosts here. As usual, people do way more than they need to to help me out. People are good.
Below are a couple videos I’ve done recently and new photos are on the Facebook page in the Nevada album.
Making my final push for California here soon. I think about five days of walking and I’ll be there. Will be quite an interesting border crossing. Happy I think, but also a bit sad as it will be my last one.
Important note: I’ve been doing some writing on my new website, NateDamm.com. If you’re interested in reading some posts from the road and also following my writing and traveling after this walk is over, check it out! There’s a little box at the end of posts that you can put your email address in for updates whenever I write new stuff.
Hey! In Eureka, Nevada. Have a couple of great hosts here – Thank you Barbie, Lorrie, Madison (the dog) and an assortment of cats. I really like this town and the people are great.
Big news: I’ll be finishing my walk on October 15 at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. You are all welcome to join me on that day for the final walk to the beach. Will have more details as the time gets closer.
Below are a couple of videos I took recently and there are some new photos in the Nevada album on the Facebook page.
Hey all! Here in Torrey, Utah. Great little town. Utah is incredible. I uploaded a TON of new photos on the Facebook page, but I continue to have issues with video. I’m going to have to find a different method of doing things. My netbook is not working great and it’s causing some issues. Looking into a couple of things right now. Oh well!
The photos are good anyway and will give you a great idea of what I’ve been up to.
I’m walking with my buddy Josh Teodoro right now, it’s been so good to have some company, especially because it’s someone who has been living just like me since May.
So yes, everything is great. So great. Hope the same goes for you.
I accidentally deleted one of the videos off my camera, oops. So there is a day missing. It was the day of the bear incident. If you want to see the bear check out the Colorado album on the Facebook page.
Hey all! In Walsenburg, CO. Great little town with an amazing public library. Heading out of town here a few miles this afternoon to stay at a state park. I still think it’s robbery to charge someone $20 to set up a tent, but oh well. At least I’ll get a much needed shower.
Sorry for one of the videos being really dark, I was pretty busy walking 40 miles in a day and didn’t get done until after dark.
So yeah, Colorado has been amazing so far, and I’ve got a lot of climbing ahead of me. But then it’s all downhill to California, right?
