April 16, 2011 Update

by Nate on April 16, 2011

Here in Washington Court House, OH. Got a hotel room last night because I couldn’t quite beat the weather to a camping area! Was nice to relax and watch some TV :-)

Below are the latest videos, and the newest photos are on the Facebook page.

Note to self: stop recording with the sun behind you. Will work on that! Ha.

ALSO IMPORTANT: Looking to name my backpack, and I’m definitely taking suggestions. I spend all day with this monster, and I’d like it to have a name. Maybe I’m just losing my mind slowly. Anyway, suggestions in the comments would be appreciated.

I notice the videos seem to be about 1:11 long and wondering why that is.

Haha just how long I feel like talking I guess!

That’s a lot of goodness you’re sharing. Love it.

I’m thinking “Rocinante,” like what Steinbeck named his truckmobile in “Travels With Charlie.” Based on Don Quixote’s horse. Could be “Rocky” for short.

Awesome suggestion!

I second Rocinante for exactly those reasons.

Dear Nate,
we watched your video and it was great! I think your doing great and I hope I will see you again. About the backpack, I think you should call it buckeye, so you will be reminded of Ohio and us.
Sincerely
Your Friend
Marcus Perko

Hey Marcus! That’s a really good idea, will definitely keep it in mind. Take care buddy and it was great hanging out with you. Hadn’t shot bb guns or a bow in way too long!

Hi Nate.
I discovered your site shortly after you left Delaware and eagerly await each and every one of your updates. A while back there was about a 5 day break and I was worried that something untoward had happened to you. I was relieved when you finally got to update us all again.
Does your backpack have a brand name? A name that could be shortened, or modified, into the backpacks new nickname? What I was thinking was the movie “Castaway”, you could call your backpack Wilson. Or, you could name it after Robert E. Lee’s horse and call it Traveler.
Travel safe……..
Stan

Hey Stan! There was a bit of a break there, but the area I was in was really tough to get a phone signal, let alone internet. My pack is a Jansport, so there are definitely options there. I LOVE the suggestion of Wilson, that’s so good.

ahhhh…Note to self makes a return. Nice….to see your doing well…and the goodness of american people..just gets better as you go.

Brother, I vote for “Wilson”….like in the Tom Hanks film castaway. Yea thats the ticket. Keep on walking..and keep the long shadows ahead of you in the morning.
Have a good Holiday too. Peace!

You have hair! I’m liking the new look…fuzztop:-)
I think you should name your backpack “Tyler”….since you two are usually together most of the time anyway. Dude!
Stay safe and dry, honey, you’re an inspiration to all of us back here in Maine! And to all you trail angels along the way – thank you as always from a very grateful Mom!

Haha mother yes my hair is getting a bit ridiculous, and I still have 6 months of growing to go, could get crazy. And that’s a wonderful suggestion. I could always go with Shadow for a name…

Nate the great! We’ve been thinking of you so much. It turned cold that night after Circleville, with all the rain. Glad you’re finding warm dry places in between the long walks. Saw Heike, Marcus & Maggie today at the Trillium Walk–talked about how much we all enjoyed your company. Omie was sorry she and Clyde were too far away to meet you. We had a very wet day, but it was all good just the same–lots of lovely food. Wish you could have been there. How are you doing? Making a dent in the groceries so your pack is not so heavy? Gotta tell you that Don Browne is Ken’s big brother in Florida. Kenny says hey, we miss you. Love from us. Carry on!

Hey! I’ve been thinking of you guys too. Really wish I could have joined you all at the Trillium Walk, maybe next year? Definitely making a dent in the pack weight, that day off I took in a hotel a couple of days ago was dedicated almost entirely to eating all that food I had. It was a good day :-)

Nate the Great is a great name but I like that Shadow suggestion.
“Large” might also be considered…

Haha Large would work well. I chose a name though, to be announced in the next post!

I’m just now stumbling upon your adventures. I wish I knew you were passing through Circleville when you were doing your walk. I would have bought you a meal at one of my favorite restaurants in town. People around here are wonderful and I’m glad to hear you were well taken care of.
